Owner Loan Program
Growing and Expanding
2012 marks the 36th anniversary of Cook County Whole Foods Co-op. Wow, we have come a long way and continue to grow! As we look toward the future, we need owner support to help build a new 6,100 square foot store on our current site. The larger space will be environmentally conscientious and offer an expanded selection of products, fresh meats, a dedicated customer service desk and a larger more comfortable eating area.
Funding Sources and Uses
The projected cost of the expansion project is $2.25 million. To complete the project we need to raise $600,000 in owner loans in addition to borrowing money from local lenders and the National Cooperative Development Fund. We plan to have all financing in place by August 31, 2012, so we can relocate to a temporary location and begin construction of the new store.

Owners may select a rate less than the ones stated here. Lower interest rates help to reduce expenses for the Co-op.
In order to best distribute the Co-op's debt repayment schedule, the Co-op will accept $120,000 within each term length. The 7, 8 and 9 year terms are full. The 5 and 6 year terms are still available.
What if I have any questions about investing?
Talk to either Jennifer or Marietta in the store, or call them at 218.387.1939 or send an email to: jennifer@cookcounty.coop
I’m interested; what do I do next?
Pick up an Owner Loan Packet in the store, or call 218.387.1939 to have a packet mailed.

Tell FDA: Do Not Approve Genetically Engineered Salmon!
On December 21, 2012, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released an Environmental Assessment (EA) with a “Finding of No Significant Impact” on the controversial AquaBounty AquaAdvantage transgenic salmon. The FDA action is widely viewed as confirmation that the Obama Administration is prepared to approve shortly the first genetically engineered (GE) animal intended for human consumption in the face of widespread opposition.
FDA says escape is unlikely and that the fish pose “no impact” to the environment. But each year millions of farmed salmon escape, outcompeting wild populations for resources and straining ecosystems. Any approval of GE salmon would represent a serious threat to the survival of native salmon populations, many of which have already suffered severe declines related to salmon farms and other man-made impacts. Additionally, the human health impacts of eating GE fish, which would be the first-ever GE food animal, are entirely unknown.
Consider signing the petition to tell the Food and Drug Administration not to approve GE salmon AND, if the Obama Administration insists on approving these genetically engineered fish, it should require the fish to be labeled! More information on this issue can be found at
